The ‘best basketball camp west of the mainland’ is back and celebrating its 40th birthday from July 4-July 7.
Anyone from Grades 4 to 12 who wants to improve their fundamentals and be on the ball for their upcoming season is welcome to a camp supervised by some of the best coaches in the province.
The camp will be divided into two age groups.
The first group, from Grades 4 to 7, will take place at Comox’s Aspen Park Elementary, from July 4-6. Grades 4 and 5 will be training from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and Grades 6 and 7 will be training from 12:30-3:30 p.m.
The head coach there will be Blake Tobacca, a former player at Vanier and at Vancouver Island University, the current head coach at Mark Isfeld Secondary, and an outstanding youth instructor.
The second group, from Grades 8 to 12, will take in the camp at Courtenay’s Mark Isfeld Secondary, from July 4-7. The camp will start at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. each day.
The head coaches for the older campers will be Larry Street of G.P. Vanier, Martin Paul of Highland Secondary, as well as Tristan Carriere-Bela of Olds College and former Towhee.
Prizes, giveaways, incentives and awards will be handed out throughout the camp.
The camp is filling up fast, so make sure to register as soon as you can. Registration forms will be available at all local schools, at G.P. Vanier’s main office, and at local community centres.
