Voting is now open for all Canadians to select their top three ski communities as part of its annual Mackenzie Top Peak contest.

This national competition seeks to celebrate Canada’s most invested ski community, which embodies the contest’s mantra to “be invested on and off the hill.”

Vancouver Island’s Mount Washington has secured a spot among this year’s top 10 finalists - making it one of only three resorts west of Quebec.

Since January, registered Top Peak ski communities from coast to coast have been earning points by collecting nominations and engaging in social media challenges. Bonus points are awarded to communities who have demonstrated a commitment to the sustainability of their slopes.

The top 10 finalists:

1. Mont Adstock (Adstock, Que.)

2. Stoneham (Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury, Que.)

3. Mont-Sainte-Anne (Beaupré, Que.)

4. Mount Washington (Mount Washington, B.C.)

5. Crabbe Mountain (Central Hainesville, N.B.)

6. Sun Peaks (Sun Peaks, B.C.)

7. Mont Edouard (L’Anse-Saint-Jean, Que.)

8. Mont Sutton (Sutton, Que.)

9. Mont Orford (Orford, Que.)

10. Duck Mountain (Kamsack, Sask.)

The top three winners will be announced live, on March 9, during CBC Sports Presents.

The winning team will take home $100,000 to invest in initiatives or upgrades that will benefit their ski community. The runner-up will be awarded with $20,000, and the third-place team with $10,000 to invest in their ski communities.

To vote for the top three teams and to learn more about the competition, visit mackenzietoppeak.ca. Voting is open until Sunday, March 3.

The Record reached out to Mount Washington officials but did not hear back from them by the deadline.
