Two Island dancers popped and locked their way into the next stage of Canada’s Got Talent.
Funkanometry – Nanaimo’s Jacksun Fryer and Duncan’s Carlow Rush – danced across the OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ont. on Tuesday evening, April 2, during the latest episode of the CityTV talent competition series.
Before performing, Fryer mentioned they were meeting judge Howie Mandel again after making it to the semifinals of America’s Got Talent’s 17th season, adding they think they have a better feel for what Mandel and the other judges might like.
Funkanometry’s choreographed and mostly synchronous routine started off to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Sweet Home Alabama, but comically changed to Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now.
Following their performance, judge Lilly Singh said Funkanometry’s timing and musicality was perfection. Mandel agreed and added the duo checks every box and is a perfect act for the million-dollar season.
“You are taking things from the old school, you’re taking things from the new school and you’re combining it,” said judge Kardinal Offishall. “You guys are incredible and I loved it.”
Yesterday’s audition landed Fryer and Rush with four ‘yeses’ and they proceed in the competition.
The funky duo was the only Vancouver Island act last night – they were also only one of two B.C. acts, out of a total of nine, and were followed up by Vernon’s Daniel Powter who performed his original song Bad Day.
Canada’s Got Talent continues on Tuesday nights until May 14.
