When respected multi-instrumentalists Oscar Robles and James Lithgow get together as the duo Alternative Facts, no one is quite sure what will come out of their unusual instruments.

Their appearance Saturday at the Photopia digital image show in the Courtenay Library will feature Lithgow playing various gadget-gizmo instruments, some of which he’s created, including pedals, loopers, synthesizer, an electronic ‘thumb piano’ and an inverted plant pot. Meanwhile, Robles will be creating intricate rhythms and lines on his unusual guitar-like-but-percussive Chapman Stick.

The output is all original.

“What we will be playing, no one will recognize,” said Robles. “This really fits with the Photopia theme ‘Experiment’.”

The music gets underway at 2:30 p.m., while the Photopia images, showing on high-end big-screen TVs, run from 10:30 a.m. Prizes will be presented to the winning photographers at 4 p.m.

Photopia and Alternative Facts are a presentation of the CV Community Arts Council.
