Don’t miss Denise Lawson’s unique paintings and select prints from NIC Fine Arts department’s extensive printmaking collection at the Lewis Centre art exhibit in Courtenay this week.

The exhibit closes Sunday, June 18. Admission is free.

Featured artist Denise Lawson completed a NIC’s Fine Arts diploma before transferring into Emily Carr University of Art + Design degree. Since graduating, she has continued her arts-based research through participating in the NIC art laboratory Mapping as Walking and as part of a six-artist collaboration that completes its inquiry in July 2017.

Lawson continues to expand her knowledge and art practice by working as a curatorial and program assistant at the Comox Valley Art Gallery thanks to a BC Arts Council grant for emerging artists.

The exhibit includes selected works from NIC’s printmaking collection by Andrea Butterworth, Karen Lavoie, Gallacher, Rhonda Burden, Steven Cousens, Megan Goodacre, Aline Hoffart and others.

Established more than 25 years ago by David McLean, Professor Emeritus in the School of Fine Art &Design, NIC’s printmaking collection consists of over 400 prints created by NIC fine arts students using silk screen, intaglio, etching, woodblock, collograph and other printmaking techniques.

In addition to printmaking, NIC offers digital media, design, sculpture, drawing, photography, ceramics and painting courses. Students can still enrol in the Fine Arts diploma starting this September or take individual courses for personal interest and professional development.

The exhibit is on display in the lounge and main hallway at the Lewis Centre, 489 Old Island Hwy, Courtenay. For more information on NIC’s fine art and design programs, visit nic.bc.ca/finearts.
