Theft from vehicles

For the week of Aug. 22-28, the Comox Valley RCMP responded to 25 calls for theft from vehicles. Items taken from these vehicles this week included, licence plates, an iPad Mini, change/cash, a backpack with work documents, a battery charger and booster pack, flashlights, wallets, medication, cell phones, a guitar and a passport. Of note, several of these files were created as residents noticed suspicious people in their neighbourhoods. The Comox Valley RCMP is reminding people to keep your car doors locked, and report any thefts or instances where your vehicle has been entered, this allows us to update our crime statistics and look for trends.

Hot wheels

From Aug. 22-28, the Comox Valley RCMP received five reports of stolen bicycles. The following bikes are still outstanding:

Aug. 22 – Green men’s Rocky Mountain Equipe 21-speed bike with black shocks. (2017-12113)

Aug. 23 – White ladies’ Giant Escape 21-speed mountain bike with orange stripes (2017-12198)

Aug. 23 – White and blue specialized mountain bike (2017-12199) Aug. 24 – Red Giant mountain bike with black highlighting on the spokes (2017-12224)

The Comox Valley RCMP would like to remind bike owners to record the serial numbers and good descriptions of bikes. With the serial numbers, the bikes can be entered onto the RCMP computer system. This will aid in getting your bike back to you if it is located.

One less drunk driver

During the late evening hours of Aug. 22 the manner in which a vehicle was being operated caught the attention of a Comox Valley RCMP constable out on patrol. A traffic stop was conducted and an impaired operation of a motor vehicle investigation was quickly started. It was found the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2017-12154)

One less speed demon

On Aug. 23, a Comox Valley RCMP constable was on patrol along Veterans Memorial Parkway, in Courtenay. A vehicle was noted to be approaching at a high rate of speed. It was confirmed that the vehicle was travelling at 101 km/h, 51 kilometres an hour over the posted speed limit. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was issued an excessive speed violation ticket, and the vehicle was impounded. (2017-12155)

Shop tools taken

A break, enter and theft was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on Aug. 25. A shop, located on the 2000 block of Idiens Way, in Courtenay had been entered, and various tools were stolen. (2017-12297)

BOLO for Chrysler 300

On Aug. 26, the Comox Valley RCMP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle, a 2005 grey four-door Chrysler 300 bearing British Columbia licence plate CE844C, had been parked on the 500 block of 11th street in Courtenay. Business B&E

A business break, enter and theft was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on Aug. 28. Sometime over the weekend, unknown person(s) had entered the business, located on the 8500 block of Reinhold Road, in Black Creek. Various electronics were stolen. (2017-12476)
