On Sunday April 23, at the annual general meeting held in Black Creek, a new board of directors was installed to represent supporters of the federal Liberal Party of Canada in the new riding of North Island-Powell River.

The riding covers an area of 58,000 square kilometres, has a population of 103,000 with 81,000 eligible voters.

The southern boundary is a line drawn roughly through Courtenay, including Comox, then across the Salish Sea to include Texada Island, Powell River and surrounding district. The northerly boundary includes northern Vancouver Island and the southern section of the Great Bear Rain Forest.

Under the by-laws of the new Liberal Party of Canada Constitution, which came into effect in January 2017, the executive board consists of five chair positions with up to six directors-at-large.

In the post-election year, supporters from the three larger urban areas within the riding came together and worked hard, in spite the regional differences, to find unity and a single purpose.

The new board of directors is both gender and regionally balanced.

The executive board consists of chairwoman Melanie Jordon – Powell River, vice-chairwoman Chrystal Arnet – Campbell River, secretary Peter Schwarzhoff – Campbell River, policy chairman Tony Reynolds – Comox, organization chairman Bob Bowen – Comox

The directors-at-large are Johanna Clark – Merville, Wayne Morrow – Comox, Jill Harrington – Campbell River, Sherrill Stone – Campbell River, Telis Savvaidis – Powell River, Kersten Wuthrich – Powell River.
