It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Beryl on April 6, 2024. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in quiet peace knowing she will forever remain in our hearts.
Born December 2, 1929 to Florence and Stanley Ellis in Oxfordshire, England, she immigrated to Canada in 1951. She spent time in Telkwa, BC; Vancouver, BC and Calgary, AB before marrying Jack (Kazimierz) Jakubowski in 1954 and settling in Smithers, BC. After Jack's death in 1994, she married Al Vince in 1996, who passed away in 1997. Beryl was predeceased by her brothers Ernest, John, and Gerald, and sisters Irene and Florence. She will be remembered by her children Jean, Dianne, Michael (Leonora), Peter (Rosalind); brother Aubrey and sister Jean.
Beryl was active in all things relevant to horses, including the Northern Saddle Club, Back Country Horsemen, 4-H and Pony Club. She also volunteered with guiding children with disabilities to ride horses.
Beryl had a very strong faith and was an active member of the Smithers United Church and was a life-long member of the Glenwood Women's Institute. She moved to the Comox Valley in 2003 where she became active in St. George's Church and other senior's groups.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bullock, Brad from Seniors Wheels & Care, and the staff in Oceanview at The Views in Comox for their care, compassion and the love they showed Mom during her stay with them. Also appreciated was their 5-star treatment of the family, particularly during her final days.
A funeral service will be held on April 17, 2024 at St. George's United Church in Courtenay at 2:00 PM with a graveside service in Smithers at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Beryl requested donations to the Canadian Bible Society or St. George's United Church in Courtenay.
