WANLESS, Evelyn Louise (nee Burgess)

Following a brief illness, Louise Wanless passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2010 in Campbell River, B.C. Louise was born on June 9, 1921 in Wawanesa, Manitoba, the second youngest of ten children born to John and Christina Burgess.

After completing her schooling in Wawanesa, Louise attended business college in Brandon and began her career as a stenographer with the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company a career which spanned 30 years during which she made many life-long friends. In the Wawanesa community, she was a long-time member of the United Church Choir, the skating and curling clubs and a 74 year member of the Hope Rebekah Lodge.

In August 1959, Louise married Duncan Carlyle “Carl” Wanless and, after several years working together at “The Mutual”, they moved to Vancouver and, after Carl's retirement in 1991, to Comox, BC which was Louise's home until her passing. During their years in Vancouver, they were active members of St. John's United Church and had fond memories of the friendships made there.

Louise was pre-deceased by her husband Carl in 1998, by brothers Frank, Jim, Neil and John Burgess and sisters Margaret Gould, Jennie Forbes, and Tena Sundell. She leaves to mourn, her sister Marion Dempsey of Comox, BC and many nieces, nephews and their families who will miss “Auntie Louise” greatly.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Wawanesa. If friends so desire, donations in Louise's memory may be made to the Wawanesa United Church, Wawanesa, MB, or to a charity of one's choice.
