September 23, 1937 - March 17, 2017

Gayle passed away peacefully on March 17, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m on Saturday, April 1st at Sunnydale Golf Course.

Gayle was born in Tees, Alberta on September 23, 1937. The family moved to Summerside, PEI when her father was stationed at the airbase there. It was here that she met her husband Jim Odo. They were married in 1956 and moved to Atikokan, Ontario when Jim was employed at the Steep Rock Mines.

All four of her children were born in Atikokan. The family moved to Courtenay in 1965.

Gayle worked as a bookkeeper for most of her career and was first employed by Warren Standevan in the Comox Valley. She eventually obtained her Certified General Accountant designation. She finished her accounting career with Presley and Partners, continuing to work after retirement age on a part time basis well into her 70’s.

Mom enjoyed golf and was an accomplished 5 pin bowler, often carrying the highest women’s average in the valley. She was also actively involved in many charities and organizations including Soroptimists, Kinettes, YBC bowling, Cubs and a member of the executive at Sunnydale Golf Course.

Gayle is survived by three of her children Richard, Jim and Connie, six grandchildren and other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son Raymond, husband Jim, sister Tracy and brother Rod.

Mom lived her life to the fullest, filling much of her time with friends and family. She will be missed.

The family wishes to thank the staff of St Joseph’s Hospital. A warm appreciation for Dr. Hunter and the caretakers and nurses at the Hospice at the Views for the special care and attention they provided Mom, allowing her to spend her final days with dignity and in comfort.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Comox Valley Hospice Society.
