In loving memory ~

Joan Hansen was one of a kind. She was an incredibly kind, loving, and generous person who had the unique ability to make everyone feel welcome. She loved to socialize and constantly bring people together - for dinner parties, coffee meetups, travel getaways and an endless number of gatherings. Even though she lived with terminal cancer for the past 4+ years, she continued to travel and enjoy life to the fullest until she lost her battle on September 24, 2023. She was in her 80th year and lived life to the fullest!

Joan was a Maritimer at heart but had called the Comox Valley her home for the past 27+ years, preceded by several years in the BC Central interior where her son Michael, granddaughter Kaylee (Dan), and great-grandchildren Skylar and Payton now reside. She was planning to move to Edmonton to live with her daughter Carla (Conrad) and grandson Greysen to live out her final days and have endless family dinner celebrations (her words). She is also survived by her brother Owen (Susan), sister Rosalie in Nova Scotia, and brother Donnie (Dianne) in Florida. She also had an endless number of close friends and extended family members from across all corners of North America who loved her greatly.

Joan will be greatly missed by her entire family, her morning coffee friend group, her lunch/dinner friend group, and numerous other close friends in the Comox Valley and BC's central interior, just to name a few. To say she loved people and social interaction is an understatement and a testament to her true personality and caring nature.

A very special thanks goes out to Joan's doctor (Dr. Daniel Weinberg) for the incredible care he delivered for the past several years, including regular visits during her final days at the North Island Comox Valley Hospital. And a very special thanks to all the incredible nurses and support staff at the hospital during her final days. The care was truly amazing and this made the process so much easier for everyone, including our dear mom, Joan. If you would like to make a donation in her honour, please consider the North Island Comox Valley Hospital or the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. And if you would like to share a warming story, send your condolences, or just get in touch, please email Carla at poiriercarla2@gmail.com. A Celebration of Life will be held May 8, 2024 12 PM to 4 PM at Grantham Hall - 6040 Old Island Highway, Courtenay, B.C.
