Born in Noordwijk, Holland, March 9, 1904 passed away peacefully in the presence of his Lord on March 19, 2004 at the age of 100. John (Jo) emigrated to Canada with his wife and their 5 children in 1951. He was a resident of Courtenay more than 50 years. He is predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Trien, in 2000. He leaves to mourn his loving children: Janny Buursma (Theo - Deceased), Kees (Wynne) de Monye, Maartje (Ray) Reimer, Rina (Tony) Romeyn, John (Bev) de Monye; grandchildren: Theo Buursma, Yolanda Knapton, Angela Buursma, John de Monye, Marian (Rod) Parker, Trina deMonye, Fiona de Monye, Michaela de Monye, Arlene Blome, Rick Reimer, Ray (Tracey) Reimer, Annette (Jim) Vanderploeg, Rob (Martha) Romeyn, Eric de Monye, Helen (Jeff) Magnusson and 15 great-grandchildren.
Service to be held at St. George’s United Church, 505-6th Street, Courtenay, B.C. at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2004. Reverend Ray Brandon officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
