“I would only believe in a god that knows how to dance”

— F Netzche

Norah was born in St Josephs Hospital in Comox and lived with her parents on Denman Island for her early childhood. Then after a couple of years on Paisley Island they moved to Vancouver for her schooling, and except for a year at the University in London, Ontario she remained there. During the war she was a wren in Halifax & was there for the Halifax explosion. She met and married Andrew Johnston in 1947 and they raised 5 children in West Vancouver.

She was always involved in movement of some kind from redcross swim teacher to creating movement classes for the blind. She spent many years dancing, teaching and choreographing with the Anna Wyman dance troupe. When she and Andy retired they moved to Denman Island.

Norah was soon involved with theatre groups and teaching movement. She spent many years as part of the belly dance group, and was still dancing into her 80’s.

When she and Andy moved to Comox she became involved in many activities. Silver Syncros, Scottish country dancing, square dancing, and watercolour painting. My apologies to any groups I may have forgotten.

Norah was also a member of the Unitarian church and was enthusiastic about her chalise group. She was a staunch supporter of the NDP and always volunteered during elections. She had many wonderful friends and was loved by all.

A celebration of her life will be held in July (when Guy returns from fishing)

Grateful thanks to Nina, the Unitarian Church, and the hospice group…

A special thanks to all the talented, caring nursing staff, who gave our mother professional, personal care, amidst their own job uncertanties and political crisis.
