Richard Kenneth (Rick) Waite

1952 – 2007

Rick Waite passed away in Courtenay on March 16, 2007, after an illness of 5 months. He is survived by his loving partner, Karen, his children: Michelle (Ian) Jensen, Richard (Diana) and Cara; his grandchildren: Zachary, Sabrina, Christopher and Abigail; parents Dick and June; sisters Leslie (Keith) and Tracy (Chris); as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Rick was born in Vancouver the 28th of January 1952 and lived there until the family moved to Centralia, Ontario in 1954. He first lived in the Comox Valley when his dad was transferred here in 1958. From CFB Comox the family moved to CFS Holberg in November 1960, then CFB St. Hubert, Quebec from 1964-1968 before moving back to the Comox Valley. Rick loved Vancouver Island and made it his home for the rest of his life.

He chose logging as his career – a vocation at which he excelled. His goal was to be a faller, a goal that he achieved after he had learned all the other logging trades.

Rick was a many talented man. He was never afraid to tackle something new, and was always up for a challenge. He loved woodworking, building and doing any kind of repair or home improvement project. Fun times for him included playing his guitar, skiing, woodworking, travelling, and especially spending time with family.

In the 1970s, he was a member of the Leakey Loggers ball team and maintained close ties with his team-mates throughout the years. Many of them attended the fishing derby he hosted annually for many years in Port Hardy. It was a fun time.

Please join us at a gathering to remember Rick’s life and times, to be held at the Crown Isle Resort, Ryan Road, Courtenay, from 1-3 pm, Saturday, March 24, 2007.

A big ‘thank you’ goes to the Home Care nurses who were so kind to him, and a special thanks as well to Paula.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of their choice.
