In loving memory ~

Susan Christina Burr was born to Arthur and Coral Ward in 1936, the youngest of two girls. Growing up in the London borough of Brixton, her childhood was marked by war. Her father served in the Merchant Navy and her mother often brought Christina and her sister, Anna, to stay with relatives to escape the Blitz. Christina and Anna remained close throughout their lives and Christina greatly enjoyed trips to Toronto to visit Anna and her family.

Christina married Alan in 1964 and the couple welcomed their first child a year later. They emigrated from the UK in 1966, moving to Vancouver where Alan worked as a pediatrician at St. Paul's Hospital. The family moved to Prince Edward Island for a short time before settling in Comox in 1973.

A devoted mother, Christina raised six children - Ruth, Susan, Karen, Ann, Sarah, and David - and took great pride in their accomplishments. She attended countless ballet recitals, piano practices, band concerts and karate tournaments, often sewing costumes and searching for lost music into the early hours of the morning.

Christina loved animals and happily took all manner of them into her home: cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, chickens, and turtles. An avid walker, those who knew Christina would remember her walking along Comox Avenue either pushing her Super Valu cart back from buying groceries or walking her dog. After her children left home, Christina pursued her love of travel visiting the USA, Europe, Australia, and Africa. Christina found great comfort in her Christian faith. She loved nature, seeing God's beauty in flowers, cherry blossoms, and trees.

Christina was grandmother to 14 grandchildren and looked forward to their visits with anticipation. They, in turn, delighted in playing at their Grandma's house, exploring her garden and drinking tea with her in the afternoons.

In lieu of flowers, Christina's family requests donations be made to the Comox Valley SPCA. A service of remembrance was held for Christina on March 25th at the Church of St John the Divine in Courtenay.
