SCOTT
Verna Lou
1911 to 2008
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Verna Scott in her 97th year. On the last day of 2008 she slipped quietly from us.
Verna was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Hardy. Left to cherish her memory are her son Hardy and her daughter Mary. Also missing her are her grandchildren Sam and Alex Scott.
Verna and Hardy spent a lifetime devoted to working toward to the improvement of the common good. They were passionate about world peace, upholding civil rights, abolishing poverty and ensuring that workers of the world were treated fairly. As a result, their life in the southern US was one of public censure and poverty. Verna dealt with these challenges with courage and her wry sense of humour and razor sharp wit.
The family wishes to thank the staff, volunteers and residents of St. Joseph's Hospital ECU for their loving kindness.
There will be no service as was Verna's wish.
"Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too.
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace.
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one.
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one."
John Lennon
