On Monday, June 26 the Comox Valley Wild finished their regular season with a win over Nanaimo in the playoffs to secure a spot in the B.C. Lacrosse Association provincial championship July 6-9 in Fort St. John.

The players aged 10-12 worked hard all season and finished strong, moving on to represent Vancouver Island at this tournament at the peewee B level.

“The kids are really looking forward to the opportunity to travel up north and face teams from across the province,” head coach Shane Egilson said. “Ten of our players had the experience last year when we won gold in the peewee C level, so that really helps with this upcoming tournament. For some of these kids it will be their first experience at the competitive level, and with the tournament in Fort St. John it will be a fun to get away as a team building on the experience last year for this group.”

The coaches are really proud of all the kids who have worked hard all year on individual skills and team play.

Comox Valley Wild peewee B players come from all the communities in the Valley, and are led by captain Olivier Laplante, and assistant captains Adam Bailey, Will Domae-Garbutt and Chris Monckton. Runners for the team are Andrew Bremer, Simon Craig, Curtis Egilson, Kaelen Fourneau, Karson Gibson, Brodie Howell, Colin Kelly, Braxton Pederson-Skene, Dylan Stevenson and Jaxon Rich. The team is backstopped by goalies Grayden Barr and Haydin Gibson.

Working hard behind the scenes all season is a group of supportive parents led by manager Christina Horns and Stephanie Bremer, and assistant coaches Dermot Kelly and Geoff Garbutt.

In order to make the trip to Fort St. John, the players and parents have been fundraising in the community from the beginning of the season. Since confirming a spot in provincials, they have launched a Go Fund Me page to help defer the cost of travel and accommodation.
