The Comox Valley United Division 1 men’s soccer team opened its season with a scoreless draw Saturday night in Nanaimo.

The game was more exciting than the result indicated, with both sides creating a number of scoring chances.

“It was a very physical, high-paced battle that reminded all of us what the best league on the island is all about,” a statement says.

CVU plays its home opener Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Vanier turf field. Their opponent is VI Wave.

The team hopes for a big home crowd.

“There is always a fun atmosphere for the whole family with exceptional soccer to watch. Admission is free. We are excited to show off our new jerseys that are sponsored by Sure Copy Centre and Sealbay RV Park.”
