Comox Valley residents can welcome spring by making a big difference in the lives of local families. Even better, they’ll also give themselves a chance to win big!
Comox Valley Hospice Society relies on the community to provide vital, free, end-of-life care for local residents and their loved ones. In fact, 70 to 75 per cent of the society’s funding comes from community donations and fundraisers just like its online Four Seasons Spring 50/50 Draw – appropriately drawn on March 21, the first day of spring!
“The support we receive from the local community is invaluable – it allows our staff and volunteers to provide year-round, compassionate care and we couldn’t do it without our donors!” says Raida Bolton, fundraising coordinator for the local non-profit. “Recognizing the importance of that support, we’re really excited to host a fundraiser that also gives back – the first of four we’ll host in 2024 to celebrate the changing of each season.”
Tickets are available here, with the deadline to purchase for the spring draw at noon on March 21. Tickets are: One for $10; three for $25; and seven for $50.
Like any 50/50 draw, the more tickets that are sold, the bigger the prize, and with a maximum of 2,525 tickets up for grabs, that means the winner could take home up to $10,000, Raida notes, encouraging participants to share the draw with family, friends and co-workers.
“Fifty per cent of the proceeds will support Comox Valley Hospice Society end-of-life and bereavement programs including volunteer and support groups, visiting programs, grief education, and counselling. The other 50 per cent will go to the winner.”

More opportunities to give
Of course, the 50/50 draw isn’t the only way to provide essential resources for individuals facing end of life and their loved ones.
If you have a vehicle that has out-lived its usefulness to you, Donate a Car Canada lets you pass on the proceeds from a donated vehicle to the Comox Valley Hospice Society.
Working on behalf of the society, Donate a Car Canada will accept your vehicle – running or not! – and handle all aspects of your donation, from pick-up to final sale, and ensure your vehicle is sold for the most amount possible. Following the sale, they’ll forward the net proceeds to the Comox Valley Hospice Society and you’ll receive a tax-deductible receipt.
